Frances Kathryn “Kathy” White, 40, a resident of the Elk community of Dryfork, departed this life early Friday morning, April 11, 2003, at the home of her mother, Pat White, following a courageous battle with cancer for the past six years.

She was born March 18, 1963, in Parsons, a daughter of the late David White Sr. and Patricia Pratt White, who survives at Dryfork.

She was formerly married to Ercil L. Martin, who survives at Valley Bend.

Also surviving are one son, Travis Neil Martin, Hendricks; five stepsons, Johnny, Denver, David, Eugene and Daniel; two stepdaughters, Frances and Tammy; three brothers, Richard White of Parsons, Michael White of Frostburg, Md., and Ronald White of Franklin; one stepbrother, David E. White of Hendricks; three sisters, Kerry Riggleman of Harrisonburg, Va., Janet L. Bucklew of New Creek, and Helen M. Rhoades of Parsons; one stepsister, Evangeline Johnston of Montrose; and her longtime companion, Virgil L. Lambert of Valley Bend.

She is preceded in death by one brother, David M. White.

She attended the Hamrick School at Hendricks, Parsons High School and graduated with the class of 1981 from Tucker County High School and attended Davis & Elkins College. She was a nurse’s aide, former employee of the Canaan Valley Resort, the EconoLodge of Elkins, and the Colonial Mill Works at Beverly. She loved crocheting, knitting and hooking quilts, and was known for her talent for making doll babies, and was an avid reader.

The family will receive friends at the Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home on Sunday from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Final rites will be conducted from the funeral home parlor on Monday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Jeff Winter will officiate and interment will follow at the Brights Chapel Cemetery at Dryfork. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements for Frances Kathryn “Kathy” White.
