Frank Marshall Ours, 61, a resident of Parsons, departed this life Monday afternoon, July 29, 2002, at his home. He had been in his usual health and death was unexpected and was attributed to a massive heart attack.

He was born Aug. 18, 1940, a son of the late John Marshall Ours and Katherine Louise Minear Ours.

On Aug. 5, 1972, he was married to the former Stephanie Shreve of Parsons, who survives.

Also surviving are one son, Paul Marshall Ours, Morgantown; two sisters, Roberta Ours Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla., and Ruth Louise Ours Lee, Honolulu, Hawaii; his mother-in-law, Billie Ours Shreve, Elkins; his brother-in-law, Gary R. Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla.; his nephew, John Marshall Lee, Los Angeles, Calif.; and two nieces, Robin Snyder Hassett, Florida, and Kimberly Snyder, Boca Raton, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one nephew, G. Richard Snyder; and his father-in-law, Paul E. Shreve.

He was a graduate of Parsons High School with the class of 1958 and attended Potomac State College, majoring in business. He served in the U.S. Navy, as a class (E-5) AMS2, metalsmith, and in the U.S. Naval Reserve. He was owner of the former Ours Motor Company and ran a body shop in Parsons. For the past 31 years, he owned and operated Signs by Ours in Parsons.

Mr. Ours’ avid interest in science led to his having been awarded two patents and having had articles published in popular science and organic gardening journals. He also created technical drawings for gardening magazines and published two booklets on winter gardening. He was a lifelong member of Parsons Presbyterian Church, having served as deacon and trustee. He was a former member of the Elkins Astronomy Club and the Parsons Lions Club.

Funeral arrangements are incomplete pending the arrival of family. The Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
