Frank X. Grindinger, 86, of Colorado Springs, Colo., died at home Tuesday, Oct. 28, 2003, under the loving care of his children and Pikes Peak Hospice.

He was born Sept. 9, 1917, in Omaha, Neb., to Francis Xavier and Mary Hubertina Ising Grindinger. His parents are now deceased.

He was preceded in death by Peggy, his beloved wife of 61 years; one daughter, Patty Elliott; two sisters, Bea Crump and Peggy Bush; and an infant brother, Lee Edward Grindinger.

Frank was a respected member of the Colorado Springs community. He and two partners bought G.W. Struthers & Son Slaughterhouse in 1944 and changed the name to G&C Packing Co. The company will celebrate 60 years in business next year with Frank’s son, Frank III, as the current owner.

Frank was an avid golfer from his youth until recently. He enjoyed many golf trips with Peggy and won several golf trophies in local competitions. He was a longtime member of the Soil and Water Conservation Society and the Colorado Springs Executive Club. He enjoyed following football games and golf tournaments. He appreciated many kinds of music.

In addition to his only son, Frank III, Frank is survived by his daughters, Barbara Carter of Elkins, Susan Bowman, Joan O’Neill, Margie Plucinski, Beth Carrier and Teresa Hoover, all of Colorado Springs, Colo.; two brothers, Jack Grindinger of Sun City West, Ariz., and Jerry Grindinger of Ventura, Calif.; one sister, Jean Nelson of Denver, Colo.; 23 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be Friday from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Shrine of Remembrance “America the Beautiful” Chapel of Roses, followed by the Rosary at 7 p.m. The Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Divine Redeemer Catholic Church, 1520 E. Yampa St., Colorado Springs, Colo.
