Freda Grace Roy Dumire, 88, a resident of the Chenoweth Creek Road, Elkins, departed this life late Tuesday evening, March 11, 2003, at her home. Death was unexpected.

She was born Wednesday, Dec. 16, 1914, at Evenwood, a daughter of the late Enos Roy and Mary Wyatt Roy.

On July 19, 1946, at Petersburg, she was married to Keith Denison Dumire, who preceded her in death April 6, 1979.

Surviving are two sons, William David Dumire and wife, Debra, Lancaster, Pa., and James Franklin Dumire and wife, Terri, Elkins; one brother, Arthur Roy, Elkins; one sister, Nora Phares, Chenoweth Creek Road, Elkins; a sister-in-law and life long friend, Lucille Kight, Chenoweth Creek Road, Elkins; three grandchildren, David Keith, William Robert and Ryan Glenn Dumire; and two great grandchildren, Isaiah Keith and Michaela Renee Dumire.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Olie, Stover and Warren Roy; and three sisters, Pansy Mullenix, Effie Nicholson and Izetta Houston.

Mrs. Dumire was a graduate of Elkins High School, with the class of 1931, and was a magna cum laude graduate of Davis & Elkins College, with the class of 1935. She taught French and English for 37 years, having taught at Coalton High School, Tygarts Valley High School and Elkins Junior High School, and retired in 1975. She was a member of the Lambda Chapter, Delta Kappa Gamma National Teacher’s Honorary Society, the National, State and Randolph County Retired School Employees Association, had served as past president of the Randolph County Retired School Employees, was a past worthy matron and member of the Randolph Chapter 74, Order of the Eastern Star, the Randolph County Senior Center and the Otterbein United Methodist Church, where she was a member of the Irons Bible Class and vice president and member of Circle 2 of the church.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. today.

Today, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home, the Randolph Chapter 74 Order of the Eastern Star will conduct ritualistic services.

Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel, Saturday at 11 a.m.

The Rev. Leon Hevener will officiate and interment will follow at the Maplewood Cemetery at Elkins.
