Frederick H. “Fred” Scherger, 83, a resident of Huttonsville, passed from this life early Thursday morning, February 16, 2012 at the Davis Memorial Hospital Emergency Department. He had been in declining health. Fred was born Monday, October 1, 1928 at Clifton, NJ, a son of the late Fred Smith and Verna Vogel Scherger. On December 28, 1985 in New York, he was married to the former Jacqueline E. Hoernig Reddick. Fred attended the schools of New Jersey, had served with the United States Army Airborne during the Korean War, and had worked as a machinist for H.R. Precision. He enjoyed woodworking, watercolors, and playing the Mountain Dulcimer, the Dobro, and the Fiddle with the Seneca Trail Band. He has also participated in several classes at the Augusta Heritage Center, Elkins, WV. Surviving members of Fred’s family are his wife and two sons, Frederick Scherger and wife, Huyen of California and Eric Scherger and wife, Sabrina of New Jersey, two daughters, Elena Pugh and husband, Glenn of New Jersey and Rosanne Smith of Montana, six grandchildren, six great grandchildren, one half sister, Vernie Mae Noecker and husband, Robert of Pennsylvania. Fred was preceded in death by a son, Mark Scherger and a brother, Ernest Scherger. Fred’s request for cremation was honored.
