French C. West 1927-2002 Obituary

French C. West, 75, of Route 10, Buckhannon, Liggett Addition, died Sunday, April 28, 2002, at home under the care of St. Joseph’s Hospice of Buckhannon.

Mr. West was born March 5, 1927, in Buckhannon, a son of the late Clark C. and Dovie Gibson West.

He married Anna M. Cornell West, who survives at the Liggett Addition.

In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Richard West and wife, Jane, Butler, Pa., and John D. Lantz and wife, Ann, French Creek; four daughters, Susan Grafton and husband, Jim, Worthington, Pa., Alice Wolfe and husband, Ted, Buckhannon, Delilah Jarrell and husband, Terry, Marmet, and Vickie Gill and husband, Paul, Crosslanes; one granddaughter, Katerena Strader and husband, Jamie; eight other grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, one brother, Lesslie L. West and wife, Jenny, Peoria, Ariz.; and two sisters, Evelyn Olin, Denver, Colo., and Carol Birch, New Port Richey, Fla.

He was preceded in death by one son, Robert “Bob” Lantz; and two grandchildren.

Mr. West retired from Eckard Drug Co. in San Antonio, Texas, and retired from the U.S. Air Force after 22 years of service. He was a member of the VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett American Legion Post 7 and the Military Order of Cooties and the DAV Chapter No. 5 all of Buckhannon. He served in the Korean War with the U.S. Air Force. He was a charter member of West Buckhannon United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Tomblyn-whitescarver Funeral Chapel today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Wednesday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Dennis Miller and the Rev. Don McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in Heavner Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted at the graveside by the VFW Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett American Legion Post 7.
