French L. Hamner, 78, of HC 78, Rock Cave, died Saturday, June 14, 2003.

He was born July 15, 1924, at Gaines, a son of the late Lloyd and Cosbie Strader Hamner.

He was married in Buckhannon in 1947, to Waneta Mae Gregory, who survives.

Also surviving are five sons, Richard, Allen, Paul, Stanley and Steve Hamner, all of Gaines; three daughters, Nelva Lou Teter of Walkersville, Julia Rose Hamner and Lesa Faye Perrine, both of Gaines; eight grandchildren; one great-grandson; two sisters, Martha Daniels and Juanita Post, both of Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Henry Hamner, Max Hamner and Harry Hamner; three sisters, Bertha Marley, Ruth Long and Geneva Arnold; two sons, Phillip Lloyd and Michael John Hamner; and one daughter, Minnie Mae Hamner.

Mr. Hamner was a carpenter and cabinet maker. He was a member of Salem Ridge United Methodist Church.

Friends will be received at Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home in French Creek from 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday with the Rev. Charlene Edwards officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m. the funeral hour. Robert M. Vincent Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
