Gatha M. Herron, 77, of Route 2, Belington, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Wednesday morning, Jan. 22, 2002, in Davis Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.

She was born Aug. 31, 1925, in Hunter’s Fork near Belington, a daughter of the late Truman Hartzell and Ola Ann Arzonia Heckler Coontz.

On April 24, 1946, she was married to Forest B. Herron, who survives at Route 2, Belington.

Also surviving are three daughters, Faye and husband, Gary Miller, Sterling, Va., Judy Lynn and husband, Wayne Freeman, and Dianne and husband, Alfred Shahan, all of Belington; grandchildren, Jeffery Neale Miller, Charleston, S.C., Kelli Faye Lowery, Chesapeake, Va., Wayne Scott Freeman, Ft. Wayne, Ind., Nykeea Cher Shears, Emily Suzann Shahan and Summer Yvette Knight, all of Belington; great-grandchildren, Gunnar Dale Miller, Hannah Faye Lowery, Hayden Britt Lowery, Zachary Tyler Freeman, Mackenzie Jade Freeman, Madison Elizabeth Shears, Noah Benjamin Shears and Ethan Lane Knight.

She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, Monica Faye Freeman and Elizabeth Dianne Freeman; three sisters, Helen Sinsel, Mabel Biller and Ona Bibey; and nine brothers, Paul Coontz, Ralph Coontz, Stewart Coontz, Jack Coontz, Doyle Coontz, Truman Junior Coontz, Kenneth L. Coontz and by infant twin brothers.

Mrs. Herron was a homemaker and former owner and operator of the Shawnee Mountaineer Restaurant. She was a member of Tygart Valley Rebekah Lodge 181 and was an active member of the Calvary Mission Church, serving as secretary, trustee and Sunday school teacher.

Friends may call at Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel in Belington from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Friday and from 9 a.m. until noon Saturday, when Mrs. Herron will be moved to the Calvary Mission Church, where friends may call from 1 p.m. until 2 p.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Larry Poling will officiate and interment will follow in Belington Fraternal Cemetery. The Schoonover-Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements for Mrs. Gatha M. Herron.
