George Austin Hamrick, 82, a resident of Dry Fork, passed from this life Tuesday, February 16, 2021, at home surrounded by family and under the care of Mountain Hospice.
George was born on Thursday, February 16, 1939, in Elkins, a son of the late Ben Franklin Hamrick and Versa Virginia Liedy. On May 20, 1961, in Baltimore, MD, he was married to the former Doris Anna Wilfong who preceded him in death on March 5, 2020.

Left to cherish George’s memory are his children, Travis Hamrick (Kim), Cheryl Fields (Jake), Pam Knotts, and Sabrina Hamrick (Andrew).

He also leaves three grandchildren, Rebecca Bennett (Jeff), TJ Hamrick (Tasha), Brandyn Hamrick (Sara), and five great-grandchildren, Luke Bennett, Phoebe Bennett, Vaynnon Rockaway, Bryce Hamrick, and Brynlee Hamrick. His three surviving brothers are Ben Hamrick, Ralph Hamrick, and Benny Hamrick and his one sister, Nellie Harris.

Preceding George in death besides his wife and parents was his son, James Martin Hamrick, and eleven siblings, Paulene Knavenshue, Raymond Dilly, Roena Pearce, Ada Bell, Mary Jane Walters, Sally Vanscoy, Delmar Leidy, Virgil Leidy, Betty Bell, Joanne Arbogast, and Buddy Lee Hamrick.

George attended the schools of Randolph County. He retired after thirty years of service from WV Department of Transportation having worked as a heavy equipment operator. He was a member of the Thomas Fairfax Lodge #174, AF & AM. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and horseback riding. He loved his family and enjoyed spending time with him.

George’s request for cremation was honored. Due to COVID-19, a Celebration of Life will be held outdoors at a later date.
