George Robert Canfield, 73, a resident of 311 Goff St., Elkins, passed away at 10:26 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 12, 2003, in the Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte, N.C., following an extended illness.

He was born July 17, 1930, in Fredericktown, Pa., the son of the late George Washington and Effie Mae Tanzey Canfield.

He was married to Frances Jeanette Canfield, who survives in Elkins.

Also surviving are one son, Rocky Canfield, Charlotte, N.C.; three daughters, Diana Hamm, Murfreesboro, Tenn., Loreta Booth and Karen Gibson, both of Belington; one sister, Jacquelyn Icanio, Las Vegas, Nev.; eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren .

Also preceding him in death was a sister.

Mr. Canfield was a veteran of the U.S. Army and was a retired union plumber.

He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 219, attended the Gospel Light Tabernacle Church and was an avid hunter and fisherman.

Friends may call from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. Friday at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Friday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. A.H. Belt officiating. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

The Tomblyn Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements for George Robert Canfield.
