George V. Harris 1939-2002

George V. Harris, 63, of Route 4, Box 600, Buckhannon, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002, at his home in Buckhannon.

Mr. Harris was born May 23, 1939, in Century, a son of the late Basil Francis and June Pennington Harris.

On Sept. 3, 1960, he married Iona Kesling Harris, who survives in Buckhannon.

Also surviving are four sons, Brad Kesling and wife, Sandy, George B. Harris and wife, Marsha, David Harris and wife Lori, and Kevin Harris, all of Buckhannon; one brother, Raymond Vawter and wife, Joann, Moundsville; four sisters, Donna Sue Harris, Chambersburg, Pa., Sheila Fortin and husband, George, and Jenny Iron and husband, Butch, all of Canada, and Vonda “Eddie” Parks; two grandsons, Jimmie Kesling, Buckhannon, and Brad Kesling, Vernal, Utah; three granddaughters, Tommie Loudin, Squeek Harris and Stormy Harris, all of Buckhannon; two great-grandsons, Christian Darnall and Zebulan Loudin, both of Buckhannon; and one great-granddaughter, Jade Kesling, Buckhannon.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Midgie Harris, Leonard Wayne Harris and Richard Boyd Harris; and one sister, Bertha Bonomo.

Mr. Harris was a former city policeman and worked at Cohart and Badger Coal Co.

He attended Kesling United Methodist Church and was a former lay speaker of the United Methodist Conference and later an evangelist and preached for many churches, Holbrooks Nursing Home and many revivals

At Christmas time he collected money for the Salvation Army, was a chaplain and volunteer fireman for the Ellamore Fire Department. He was a member of Kesling Mill Lions Club.

Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be in the funeral home chapel Friday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Junior Harris and the Rev. Donald McCauley officiating. Interment will follow in Kesling Cemetery in Kesling Mill.
