Georgetta Wamsley Swecker, 81, of Norton, Virginia, formerly of Lynchburg, Virginia, passed away peacefully at Norton Community Hospital following a brief illness on Wednesday, Feb. 23, 2022. She was the wife of Raymond Swecker for 62 years.

Georgetta was born in Monterville, West Virginia, to the late Charlie N. Wamsley and the late Erma E. Wamsley. She is a member of Friendship Baptist Church in Coeburn, Virginia. Georgetta worked in the school cafeteria at Brookville High School for a number of years where she was affectionately known to the students as “The Ice Cream Lady.”

She loved her husband and children dearly, and a special kitty named, Gusty. Special thanks are given to Laura Slone, Delena McCurdy, and Pam Perry as Georgetta’s caregivers for the past couple years.

Georgetta is survived by her husband, Raymond Swecker; one son, Mark Swecker (Sarah) of Saint Paul, Virginia; one daughter, Amie Bradley (Steve) of Bryan, Texas; four grandsons, Tyler Swecker, Evan Swecker, Benjamin Bradley and Colin Bradley (Emily); and one great-grandson, Keagan Bradley.

Preceded in death by one brother, Clarence Wamsley.

The family will receive friends on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2022, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Sturgill Funeral Home 310 6th Street NW Coeburn, VA. A funeral service will follow from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Brandon White officiating. A graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, 2022, from the Greenwood Acres Cemetery, Coeburn, Virginia. The family and friends will meet at 10:30 a.m. at the funeral home to go in procession to the cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Friendship Baptist Church PO Box 1895 Coeburn, VA. 24230.
