GERALDINE SMITH COTTRELL 1942-2010 Obituary
GERALDINE SMITH COTTRELL, age 68 years, a resident of Montrose, WV departed this life Wednesday morning, April 7, 2010 at the home of her son and daughter in law, Michael and Sarah Butcher of Elkins, WV. She had been fighting a courageous battle with cancer, when our Heavenly Father called her home.
She was born Wednesday, March 11, 1942 at Elkins, WV, the adopted daughter of the late Connie June White Vance and step-father, Bruce Vance of Job. She was thrice married. First, to Kenneth Dirus Butcher, Sr., who preceded her in death during December of 1977. Second, to Bruce McFarlan, who preceded her in death during 1985. Third, on August 4, 2003, to Roger Melvin Cottrell, who survives at Montrose. Also surviving are three sons, Michael James Butcher and wife Sarah, Elkins; Terry Lynn Butcher, Job; Kenneth Dirus Butcher, Jr. and wife Dawn, Job; two daughters, Connie Zernie Cottrell, Belington; Norma “Susie” Lambert and husband Richard, Bemis; one brother, Marvin Davis, Davis, WV; two half sisters, Anna Mae James, Kerens; Louise Poling, Parsons; ten grandchildren, Jennifer, Chris, Ashley, Kenneth, Tashia, Kendra, Emily, Morgan, Sherry-ann and Kimberly and one great grandchild, Hunter.
She attended the school at Job, had worked as a cook at Timberline Resort, as a nurse’s aide at Nella’s Nursing Home and was a self employed private care giver. She was a member of the Job Church of God.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home from 5 to 7 PM, Friday. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home chapel Saturday, April 10, 2010 at 1 PM. The Reverend Eli D. Hostetler will officiate and interment will follow at the Smith Mountain Farm Cemetery at Rich Mountain near Harman.
