Gladys Evelyn Doyle Channell, 83, a resident of Valley Head, went to be with the Lord at 10:20 a.m.. Friday, Dec. 10, 2010, at her residence.

She was born Jan. 29, 1927, on Doyle Hill at Mace, a daughter of the late Zannie W. Doyle and Genevieve Starcher Doyle.

On Oct. 17, 1945, at Staunton, Virginia, she was united in marriage to Fred James Channell, who preceded her in death October 4, 1991.

She is survived by three daughters, Sandra Faye King and husband, James, of Verona, Virginia, Debra Kay Brady and husband, Paul “Slugger” Brady, of Pickens and Sharon Lynn Rife of Princeton; two sons, Gary Lee Channell and wife, Carolyn, of Elkins and Michael James Channell and wife, Virginia, of Valley Head; two sisters, Gilda Tower of Albion, New York, and Glenda Brown of Akron, Ohio; and one brother, Wriley Doyle and wife, Louise, of Monterville. Also surviving are 11 grandchildren; Tamala Lawson, Timothy Channell, Angela Logar, Teresa Pachinger, Samuel King, Nathan King, Emily King, Paul Brady, III, Tonya Cloutier, Jessica Radcliffe, Ricky Rife; two stepgreat-grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandchild, one step-great-great-grandchild; and several nieces and nephews.

Also preceding her in death besides her parents and husband were a beloved sister, Gatha M. Riggleman.

Gladys was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She enjoyed spending time with her family. She was a member of Cowger Community Church.

Friends were received Sunday at Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins.

A funeral service will be conducted at 2 p.m. today from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Verl Simmons and the Rev. Ann Fretwell officiating.

Interment will follow in Valley Head Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the Cowger Community Church, in care of Anita Phillips, HC 86, Box 13, Monterville, West Virginia 26282 or to Hospice Care Corp., P.O. Box 760, Arthurdale, West Virginia 26520, in memory of Mrs. Channell.

Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Gladys Evelyn Doyle Channell.
