Gordon Tevis Curry, 76, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life early morning Saturday, May 18, 2013 at home with his loving wife at his side. He had a progressive health condition and was under the care of Mountain Hospice. Gordon was born to Mary Philiphant Curry and Ezekiel Curry on Saturday, May 1, 1937 in Horning, PA. Gordon graduated from South Park High School and when he later moved to Waynesburg, PA, he attended classes at the Waynesburg University. He will be sadly missed by his wife Phyllis A. Wison Curry whom he married on April 21, 1992 in Virginia Beach, VA. Gordon served with the Army Reserves for six years. He worked for the Alltel Pennsylvania Telephone Company in Waynesburg, PA and was transferred to another division of the same telephone company which was located in Mill Creek in 1994. There he worked for the Mountain State Telephone Company which is now known as Frontier Communications. He retired from the phone company in January 1998 with a total of thirty years of service. After retirement from the telephone company, he worked with Women’s Aid in Crisis in Elkins. He spent five enjoyable years with them until poor health required that he retire for the second time in 2009. He loved working there and they treated him with much love and respect. In earlier days, Gordon had been an avid hunter, then in later years, he enjoyed shooting with his camera rather than with a gun. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Elkins where he held offices of Head Deacon and also Elder for numerous years. He loved God and he loved spending time with his church family. Gordon and his wife, Phyllis, enjoyed camping and sometimes just sitting on their back porch looking at the mountains. He loved all kinds of animals, but was especially fond of horses which he owned for the biggest part of his life. Gordon is survived by his mother, Mary P. Curry of Waynesburg, PA, three children, Gordon T. Curry II and wife, Connie, of Wind Ridge, PA, Brian E. Curry, and wife, Missy, of Finleyville, PA, and Elizabeth A. Smith and husband, Justin, of Crescent, PA, granddaughter Kara Curry, three step children: Beverly Grimes and husband Bill, Mark J. Hodak and wife Kelley of Worthington, PA, and Sherri L. Talton of Vandergrift, PA, ten step grandchildren: Ondrea Cecil Craft, Jordan Watson, Garrett and Colton Hodak, Alex McMillan, Jordan Davis, Amanda Hodak, Trejon, Tiara and Deja Talton, a much loved sister in law Karen Boarts, niece Wendy Boarts, and nephew Alan Boarts and wife Janet. Gordon was previously married to the former Thelma Jean Thomas and Susan Lemley who also survive. Gordon’s request for cremation will be honored and a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 25, 2013 at 2:30PM at the Seventh Day Adventist Church at 205 Wilson Street, Elkins WV 26241. Pastor Don Jacko will officiate. Memorial contributions may be made in Gordon’s memory to either the Seventh Day Adventist Church at Rt 1 Box 63J Mill Creek, WV 26280 or Mountain Hospice at 1600 Crim Avenue, Belington WV 26250.
