Guy Willard Mundell, 94, a resident of Crystal Springs community, Elkins, departed this life Sunday morning, Jan. 6, 2013, in Heartland of Preston County at Kingwood. He had been in declining health although death was unexpected.

He was born Thursday, March 28, 1918, at Mill Creek, a son of the late George Henry and Isis Mae Pingley Mundell.

On Nov. 19, 1938, at Huttonsville, he was married to the former Regina R. Smith, who preceded him in death Jan. 29, 2006. They had celebrated 67 years of marriage.

Surviving are one son, Robert Henry “Bob” Mundell and wife, Delores Jean, of Reedsville; one daughter, Sandra Mae Vannoy of Franklin, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Stella Mundell of Staunton, Va.; five grandchildren, Cynthia D. Vannoy, Tonya E. Vannoy, Laura J. Hartsell, Robert M. Mundell and Beth A. Burgess; and 10 great-grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death were two brothers, Howard and Ray Mundell; and two sisters, Pearl Lockhart and Georgia Yokum.

He attended the Shaver’s Run School and was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School. He was a member of the Civilian Conservation Corp at Camp Tygart and was a promoted conductor for Western Maryland Railroad, retiring in 1978. He was a 71-year member of Woodford Memorial United Methodist Church, having become a member in 1941. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed gardening and sharing his produce with everyone. He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and his devoted family.

The family will receive friends at Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins from 5 to 8 p.m. Thursday. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home Friday, Jan. 11, at 12:30 p.m. The Rev. Dr. Bill Calhoun will officiate, and interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery at Huttonsville.
