Gwendolyn Opal Tenney 1927-2002

Gwendolyn Opal Tenney, 75, of Hemlock, died Tuesday, Feb. 26, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

Mrs. Tenney was born Feb. 26, 1927, in Erwin, a daughter of the late Grant Filip and Theodosia Lewis Moats.

On May 3, 1944, she married Basil “Chuck” Tenney, who survives.

Also surviving are four sons, Clyde Tenney, Carroll Tenney, Terry Tenney and Shawn Tenney, all of Buckhannon; four daughters, Jean Gifford, Buckhannon, Norma Cook, Fayetteville, N.C., Loretta Stump, Indiana, Pa., and Wanda Matthews, Buckhannon; a brother, Leslie Moats, Terra Alta; three sisters, Betty Tennant, Fairview, Delores Arnold, Winchester, Va., and Loretta Hiser, Baltimore, Md.; 19 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Roger Tenney; three brothers, Israel June Moats, Harry Moats and Wayne Moats; a granddaughter, Meghan Hope Tenney; and a great-granddaughter, Allison Hope Stump.

Mrs. Tenney was a homemaker. She attended Mt. Olive United Methodist Church.

Funeral Arrangements: Friends will be received at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home today from 2 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at Mt. Olive United Methodist Church Friday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. Holly Hoover and the Rev. Sam Biller officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Olive Church Cemetery in Hemlock.
