Hancel Jackson “Hank” Thompson 1960-2021 Obituary
Hancel Jackson “Hank” Thompson, age 60 years, a former Sheriff of Tucker County, WV, a native of Tucker County and more recently a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life Monday evening, April 19, 2021 at the WVU Medicine Ruby Memorial Hospital at Morgantown, WV surrounded by his loving family and under the care of WVU Medicine Hospice.
He was born Monday, August 22, 1960 at Parsons, WV a son of the late Clyde Jackson and Elsie Rose Dolly Thompson. He was previously married to Denise Sherman and husband Mark of Parsons. Also surviving are two sons, Bryan Thompson and wife Anita of Elkins, Justin Thompson and Rachel of Fairmont; one sister, Comonia Channels and husband Floyd of Pheasant Run; three grandchildren, Max and Anna Thompson, and Miles Thompson; one niece, Wendy Williams and husband Jerry of Kerens; one nephew, Steve Channels and wife Kim of Tampa, FL; three great nieces, Taylor, Jerica, and Addie Williams; two great nephews, Austin and Nathan Channels; and several cousins.
He attended the schools of Tucker County and was a graduate of 1978 with the last Class of Parsons High School. For a short period of time, he pumped gas at Bishoff’s Service Station, before entering the Police Academy. He was a Deputy Sheriff during the mid 80’s and was Sheriff of Tucker County from 1988-1994. He then became Chief of Police at Thomas from 1994-1996. He enjoyed hunting and spent a lot of time with his children at their various sporting events. Hank kept a generation of kids out of trouble by providing a place for them to go in their spare time. Everyone knew where “Hanks” was. He had a wonderful sense of humor and no one could tell a story better than he could.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Friday, April 23, 2021 from 10 AM to 1 PM. Final Rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor, Friday, at 1 PM. The Rev. Charles Hicks will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons Family Cemetery at Shavers Fork. Masks will be required.
