Harriet F. Lear 1908-2002 Obituary

Harriet F. Lear, 93, of Route 1, French Creek, died Tuesday, April 23, 2002, in St. Joseph’s Hospital.

Mrs. Lear was born May 9, 1908, in Philippi, a daughter of the late Truman and Dora Chenoweth Boyles.

On Nov. 24, 1928, she married Wayne C. Lear, who preceded her in death on July 19, 1995.

Surviving are one daughter, Patricia Rentz, Rootstown, Ohio; two sons, George Lear and wife, Cecille, Streetsboro, Ohio, and John Lear and wife, Susan, Columbus, Ohio; five grandchildren, Timothy, Jennifer and Amy Lear, Jody and husband, Don Coe, and Dean Wilcox; one great-granddaughter, Kaitlan Coe; and one brother, Frank Boyles, Valprasio, Ind.

She was preceded in death by four brothers, Morgan, Aubrey, Arno and Fred Boyles; and one sister, Mabel Wyatt.

Mrs. Lear was a homemaker and a member of Jerusalem United Methodist Church of Philippi.

As a young woman living in Akron, Harriet worked in the personnel department of Goodyear and performed locally with her husband and brother-in-law as the musical group, the Lear Hawaiian Trio. Following World War II in 1945, she and her husband, Wayne, moved to Streetsboro where they owned and operated a farm. During those years they adopted and reared three loving children. In 1978, they moved to French Creek in her home state of West Virginia where they enjoyed the richness of good friends and peaceful surroundings.

Friends will be received at Tomblyn-whitescarver Funeral Chapel Friday from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Graveside services will be at Jerusalem Cemetery in Philippi Saturday at 1 p.m. with the Rev. William C. Eskew Jr. officiating. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the St. Joseph’s Hospice or to St. Joseph’s Home Health. The address for both is 1 Amalia Drive, Buckhannon, W.Va. 26201.
