Harry Owen “Pete” Allen, 84, a resident of Route 2, the Point Pleasant Road near Belington, departed this life at 9:45 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 28, 2003, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 3, 1919, at Clemitts, the son of the late Howard and Ora A. Findley Allen.

On Nov. 2, 1946, he was united in marriage to the former Mildred Lucille Moore, who preceded him in death on March 22, 1997.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Allen and Duane Allen, both of Belington, and George Allen of Buckhannon.

Also surviving are one sister, Mary Zohner of Elkins; three brothers, Columbus Allen of Belington, Frederick Allen of Belington, and Charles Allen of Buckhannon; six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by one infant son; one infant daughter; one brother, Elijah Allen, and one infant brother.

Mr. Allen attended the schools of Barbour County, was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving in World War II, was a member of the Upper Barbour Sportsman Club and served as a former president of the club.

He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 410 in Belington. In earlier years, before his retirement, he worked as a carpenter and contractor.

He was a Protestant by faith. Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. today and on Wednesday until 11 a.m., the funeral hour when services will be conducted from the funeral home parlor.

The Rev. F. L. ”Wink” McQuain will officiate and interment will follow in the Valley Bend Cemetery near Belington where the American Legion Post No. 44 of Philippi will conduct military honors.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington, W.Va. 26250, or to the Upper Barbour Sportsman’s Club, Route 1, Box 33A, Belington, W.Va. 26250.

The Talbott Funeral Home in Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Harry Owen “Pete” Allen.
