HAZEL GERTRUDE SHAHAN Hazel Gertrude Shahan, 86, of Talbott Road, Belington, died Wednesday, August 8, 2012, in the Valentine Personal Care Home, Elkins, following an extended illness. She was born May 7, 1926, at Kasson, Barbour County, a daughter of the late Granville Dee and Belva Blanche (Poling) Shaw. On January 6, 1947, she was married to Waldo Edwin Shahan, who preceded her in death on November 18, 2011. Survivors include two sisters, Elsie Shahan and husband, Porter and Ann Vanscoy, all of Canton, Oh.; two brothers, Edison J. Shaw and wife, Carol, Moatsville, Robert Shaw and wife, Carol, New Franklin, Oh., and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by three brothers, Virgil Shaw, Earnest Shaw and John Edsel Shaw. Mrs. Shahan was a former NurseÂ’s Aide in an Ohio State Hospital. In her early years, she attended the New Hope Valley Methodist Church. She was also a fan and supporter of the 700 Club. She, along with her late husband, had volunteered with the Belington Community Fair. Funeral services will be conducted at 2:00 P.M. on Sunday, August 12, from the Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel, 609 Crim Avenue, Belington. Pastor Bryan Headley will officiate and interment will follow in the Belington Fraternal Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 3:00 until 9:00 P.M. on Saturday and from 9:00 A.M. until 2:00 P.M., the funeral hour, on Sunday. Schoonover – Stemple Funeral Chapel is entrusted with arrangements.
