Hazel M. Tackett 1910-2002 Obituary

Hazel M. Tackett, 91, a resident of Mill Creek, passed away at 4:50 p.m. Sunday, June 30, 2002, at her residence, following an extended illness.

She was born Oct. 7, 1910, at Mill Creek, a daughter of the late Anthony and Clarindia Auxier Currence.

She was married to Charles James Tackett, who preceded her in death in 1964.

She is survived by one son, Lonnie Tackett, Mill Creek; seven daughters, Helena Mary Shiflett, Akron, Ohio, Ruth Marie Howard, Fairmont, Kathleen Isabelle Pingley, Baltimore, Md., Lina Mae Taylor, Beverly, Tina Louise Croston and Irene T. Phillips, both of Valley Bend; and Bonnie Lynn Rhodes of Louisville, Miss.; 20 grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren and 19 great-great-grandchildren.

Also preceding her in death were two sons, two brothers, six sisters, three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Tackett was a direct descendent of William Currence, founder of the town of Mill Creek. She worked as custodian at Citizens National Bank for many years prior to her retirement. She was the last surviving charter member of the Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek and a member of Mill Creek Senior Center.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Wednesday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. On Thursday, she will be moved to Memorial Mission Church at Mill Creek for visitation from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m., the funeral hour. The Rev. Ralph Summerfield will officiate and interment will follow in Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville.
