Helen Josephine Coughlin Taylor, 80, a resident of Livingston Avenue, Elkins, and more recently of Colonial Place, departed this life Sunday evening, June 22, 2003, at Colonial Place. She had been in declining health and death was attributed to cancer.

She was born Friday, July 14, 1922, a daughter of the late James J. Coughlin and Helen Ursula Gordon Coughlin.

On Nov. 7, 1942, she was married to George W. “Bill” Taylor, who preceded her in death on July 10, 1991.

Surviving are one son, Michael M. Taylor, chief of the Elkins Police Department, and wife, Judy, Elkins; two daughters, Christine Stihler and husband, Craig, Elkins, and Cassandra Riffle and husband, Jim, Fairmont; one daughter-in-law, Linda Taylor Adams and husband, Jeff, Fort Ashby; and four grandchildren, Jennifer Wotring and husband, Matt, Bruceton Mills, Alicia Ruth Taylor of Fort Ashby, Taylor David and Katharine Nan Riffle of Fairmont.

She was preceded in death by one son, Patrick W. Taylor on Nov. 19, 1994; two sisters, Alice Coughlin Ingram and Mary Jane Martin; and one brother, James G. Coughlin. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

She was a graduate of Saint Peter’s Catholic School in Fairmont with the class of 1940. She was a homemaker, an avid bridge player, a loving mother and grandmother and a member of the Saint Brendan Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends at Saint Brendan Catholic Church today from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., where a prayer service will be recited by the Rev. Father William Anderson at 7 p.m. On Wednesday morning, at the church, the Liturgy of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11 a.m. The Rev. Anderson and the Rev. Father Leon Alexander will be the presiders and interment will follow in Saint Brendan Catholic Cemetery at Elkins. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to the Saint Brendan Catholic Church, PO Box 2205, Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
