Helen Virginia Harper Higgins age 84 years, a resident of Beverly, passed away Friday evening, August 26, 2011 in the Elkins Rehabilitation and Care Center. She was born November 8, 1926 at Elkins, a daughter of the late Carney Bill Harper and Sylva Jemima Teter Harper. On March 7, 1955 at Oakland, MD, she was married to Roy Ray Higgins, who preceded her in death on September 22, 1995. She is survived by two sons, Edwin Ray Higgins and wife Christy of Elkins, Richard Dale Higgins and wife Nancy of Fairmont and three daughters; Kitty Judy and husband Jack of Harman, Janice Haines of Elkins and Sharon Pingley and husband Ronald of Beverly. Two brothers, Billy Harper of Beckley, Howard Harper of Beverly, two sisters, Anne May Hinkle of Ohio, Rosemary Vance of Harman, 15 grandchildren, 26 great grandchildren and two great-great grandchildren also survive. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her companion of several years, Homer Rapp, one brother, Thamer Harper and one son in law, William “Bill” Haines.

Mrs. Higgins was a self employed seamstress and a member of the Red Hat Society. She was a member of the Muddlety United Methodist Church of Summersville, WV.

Friends may call from 6:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. on Monday, August 29, 2011 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins. A funeral service will be held at 11:00 A.M. Tuesday, August 30th from the funeral home chapel with Pastor Michael Boggs officiating. Interment will follow at the Jacob C. Harper Cemetery near Harman. The family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to the charity of your choice. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Helen Virginia Harper Higgins.
