Henry Lawrence Day, 82, a resident of Baltimore, Md., departed this life Monday, Feb. 10, 2003, at his home. He had been in declining health for some time.

He was born May 15, 1920, at Elkins, the son of Henry and Mary Susan Lawrence Day.

He was never married.

Mr. Day was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Preceding him in death were his father and mother; one sister, Bertie Day Swick; and one brother, Cecil Day.

Surviving are one niece, Mary Susan Swick Zirkle and husband, Aaron, of Coalton; two great-nephews, Kevin Zirkle and wife, Apryal, and Jeffrey L. Zirkle, all of Coalton; and one great-great-niece, Stacy Zirkle Truman and husband, Daniel, of Elkins.

Mr. Day graduated from Elkins High School in the class of 1938. He was very active in the Elkins High School band.

He attended Davis & Elkins College and worked at the Capitol for years.

Larry, as he was known to his friends, took a position with the Army engineers with the War Department in Germany.

While there he attended the World Youth Conference in Czechoslovakia, Russia, Greece and other countries.

After returning, he worked for and retired from the Baltimore and Ohio Railroad.

He attended the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church in Elkins.

His body was cremated in Baltimore.
