Herbert Benjamin “Herb“ Green, 69, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Monday evening, July 8, 2013, at Davis Memorial Hospital in Elkins. He was born Saturday, April 29, 1944 in Elkins, a son of the late Clarence Herbert Green and Sylvia Doretha Helmick Green. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. On December 8, 1985, he married the former Carolyn Shobe who survives in Elkins. They enjoyed twenty seven years of marriage. Also left to cherish Herb’s memory are three children: Karen Russell and husband Phil of Kerens, Becky Green of Valley Bend and Doretha Ott and husband Robbie of Valley Bend, two step children: Ginger McDougal and husband Greg of Sod and Charlie Collette and wife Chanda of Elkins, seven grandchildren: Abigail, Dustin, Tosha, Brandon, Takoda, Lucas and Autumn, five step grandchildren: GW, John, Leighanna, Chasity and Vanessa, three step great grandchildren: Alyssa, Emma and Tanner. Herb attended the schools of Randolph County. He retired in 2004 from the City of Elkins as a heavy equipment operator, having twenty eight years of dedicated service. Herb thoroughly enjoyed working with wood. He even had his own sawmill and liked producing orders for everyone. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, picking mushrooms and loved to tend to a large garden with his wife Carolyn and grandson Lucas “Lukie”. Visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Thursday, July 11, 2013 from 6 until 8PM. Funeral services will be held at the funeral home chapel on Friday at 11AM. The Reverend Robert Lowther will officiate and interment will follow at Maplewood Cemetery in Elkins.
