Herbert E. Beckner, 71, of 112 Randolph St., Buckhannon, died Friday, Oct. 10, 2003, at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Buckhannon.

He was born March 11, 1932, in Buckhannon, the son of the late John Jennings Beckner and Freda Gay Robinson Beckner.

On Oct. 4, 1954, he was married to Evelyn J. Shipman Beckner, who survives.

Surviving are one daughter, Vickie Keen of Buckhannon; one brother, Marlin Beckner of Buckhannon; three sisters, Mavis Eskew of Buckhannon, Ruby Goodwin of Amherst, Ohio, and Evelyn Jean Ryan of Painesville, Ohio; two grandsons, Michael E. Hawkins of Buckhannon and Jeremy L. Hawkins of Buckhannon; one granddaughter, Michelle L. Hawkins of Buckhannon; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by three brothers, Arnold Beckner, Dale Beckner and Richard Beckner.

He was a meatcutter for Roll Star and served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War.

He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663, Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion,- and Eagles Lodge 4357, and was a former member of the Federation of Musicians.

He was a Methodist by faith.

Friends were received Sunday at the Poling- St. Clair Funeral Home where funeral services will be at 2 p.m. today. The Rev. Robert Poling will officiate and interment will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. Buckhannon Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 3663 and Frank B. Bartlett Post 7 American Legion will conduct full military honors at the graveside.
