Herman Elmer Heitz, 83, of Pineview Apartments, Thomas, passed away Friday, April 4, 2003, at Cortland Acres Nursing Home.

He was born Jan. 1, 1920, in Canaan Valley, the son of the late Joseph and Floda Alice Propst Heitz Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Gladys Yokum Heitz; three grandchildren; one great-granddaughter and one great-great-granddaughter.

He was preceded in death by two sons, Herman Joseph and David Elmer; four brothers, Clay, Norman, William and Eugene; and one sister, Louise Harman.

He was the last surviving member of his immediate family.

Mr. Heitz was a veteran of World War II and worked as a carpenter for the Marley Co. of Kansas City. He was a 50-year member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Union 1590.

Friends will be received at the Hinkle Funeral Home in Davis today from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be at the Hinkle Funeral Chapel on Sunday at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Bob Johnson officiating. Interment will follow in the Buena Cemetery. Hinkle Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
