Hobert Milton “Bud” Shoemaker, Jr., age 87 years, a resident of Elkins, WV departed this life early Friday morning, November 19, 2021 at the Davis Medical Center at Elkins, WV.
He was born Monday, October 8, 1934 at Elkins, WV, a son of the late Hobert Milton Shoemaker, Sr., and Belva Ellen Everett Shoemaker. On May 26, 1956 at the Davis Memorial Presbyterian Church at Elkins, WV, he was married to the former Elsie Juanita Fisher Shoemaker, who preceded him in death October 23, 2019. Surviving are three sons, Gary Milton Shoemaker and wife Virginia “Ginny” of Elkins, Mark Bradley Shoemaker and wife Dawn of Elizabeth City, NC, and Chad Eric Shoemaker and wife Christie of Elkins; four grandchildren, Caden Shoemaker of Elizabeth City, NC, Sara and Sophia Shoemaker, both of Elkins, Kyler Shoemaker of Elizabeth City, NC; four step grandchildren, JR, Brittany, Kristen, and Branden; several step great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Preceding him in death are one brother, Danny Shoemaker; and two sisters, Virginia Shoemaker Friend, and Joan Shoemaker Haller.
Bud was a graduate of Elkins High School and was a Veteran of the United States Army serving as a Sergeant in Stuttgart, Germany. He had worked for Allegheny Lumber Company, the Western Maryland Railroad as a Carman and later as Custodian at the First Baptist Church of Elkins, from which he retired. In his younger years, he played softball and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was very active in his children’s sporting events and was an avid sports fan. Most of all he enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Elkins where he was a member of the Choir and truly loved his church.
The family will receive friends at the First Baptist Church of Elkins from 4 to 7 PM, Monday. Final Rites will be conducted at the church, Tuesday, November 23, 2021 at 11 AM. The Reverend Linda Roberts and the Reverend Joe Wolfe will officiate and interment will follow at the American Legion’s Little Arlington Cemetery at Cravensdale, WV, where full military honors will be accorded by members of the WV National Guard Honor Guard, the H. W. Daniel’s Post # 29, American Legion and the Tygart’s Valley Post # 3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars.
