Homer William Red Rush 1915-2002

Homer William “Red” Rush, 87, of Route 2, Philippi, died Thursday evening, Dec. 5, 2002, at his home following an extended illness.

He was born Dec. 4, 1915, at Rimer, Pa., a son of the late Simon Joseph and Annie Theressa (Delacour) Rush.

On Nov. 14, 1941, he married the former Violet Leone Reedy, who preceded him in death on April 16, 1991.

Surviving are one sister, Mrs. Ellen “Dottie” Barrett, Oil City, Pa.; and several nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by two sisters, Bernice Ahrens and Margaret Perrine; and by four brothers, Albert Rush, Glenn Rush, Elmer Rush and Clarence Rush.

Mr. Rush was a veteran of World War II, serving with Company A, 817th Tank Destroyer Battalion, U.S. Army. He was a retired equipment operator in surface mining. He was a member of the Philippi Presbyterian Church, St. John’s Lodge No. 24, AF & AM at Shinnston and a 32nd Degree Scottish Rite Mason with membership in the Clarksburg and Wheeling bodies.

Friends may call at Stemple & Forman Funeral Home in Philippi from 3 p.m. until 9 p.m. Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted from the funeral home chapel at 7 p.m. Sunday with the Rev. David Bower officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted at 2 p.m. Monday at the Jerusalem Lutheran Cemetery, New Bethlehem, Pa. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home is entrusted with arrangements.
