Howard E. Fansler 1911-2002 Obituary

Howard E. Fansler, 90, a resident of 120 Conaway Drive, Elkins, passed away Sunday morning, March 10, 2002, in Broaddus Hospital Extended Care Facility.

He was born Dec. 30, 1911, at Bowden, a son of the late William and Minnie Mae Day Fansler.

He was married to Dollie Howell Phares Fansler, who survives in Elkins.

Also surviving are one son, William Owen Fansler and wife, Louella, Tracy, Calif.; two daughters, Bettie Gear, Baltimore, Md., and Mrs. Charles (Vieva) Ward of Elkins; two stepdaughters, Patricia A. Johnson, Edgewater, Fla., and Mrs. Guy (Avis) Ryan of Elkins; one sister, Edna Smith, Cumberland, Md.; 11 grandchildren, four stepgrandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and five stepgreat-grandchildren.

Also preceding him in death were two sons, Howard E. Fansler and Everett Fansler; 10 brothers and three sisters.

Mr. Fansler attended the schools of Randolph County and was employed as a railway engineer for Western Maryland Railroad for 50 years prior to his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church of Elkins and the United Transportation Union.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday at Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Friday from the funeral home chapel with Dr. Marvin L. Parli officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. State Memorial Gardens near Gilman. Memorial contributions may be made to First Baptist Church, 412 Randolph Ave., Elkins, W.Va. 26241.
