Mrs. Ina Jean Chenoweth Holbert, 96, a resident of the Mountain Memories Assisted Living Facility in Elkins and formerly of Belington departed this life Thursday afternoon, Nov. 25, 2021, at the care facility. Death was following a period of declining health.

She was born Oct. 3, 1925, at Wendel, (Taylor County) West Virginia, a daughter of the late Opha and Bessie Marie Kittle Chenoweth.

On Dec. 28, 1947, she was united in marriage to Edward Findley Holbert, who preceded her in death on May 20, 2007.

She is survived by two sons, Edward Wayne Holbert and wife, Denise, of Belington, and Kevin Holbert of Yulee, Florida; four grandchildren, Melissa Chamberlain and husband, Brian, of Slaty Fork, West Virginia, Jonathan Holbert of South Charleston, West Virginia, Sheldon Holbert and wife, Nicki, of Belington and Amanda Holbert of Charleston, South Carolina Additional survivors include six great-grandchildren, Sydney, Payton, Rylee, Josalyn, Holbert and Carly and Max Chamberlain. Several nieces and nephews also survive.

In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one infant daughter, Tonja Joy Holbert; three sisters, Loretta Coontz, Louise Shaffer and Martha Mason; and one brother, Carl “Bud” Chenoweth. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

Mrs. Holbert attended the schools of Barbour County graduating from the Belington High School with the class of 1943. She was a longtime member of the Valley Bend Baptist Church near Belington and was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 41 of Philippi. Mrs. Holbert was retired from Grafton Manufactured Homes in Grafton as a bookkeeper.

She loved to work puzzles and in her younger years she enjoyed camping and fishing. She’ll be remembered for her cooking, canning and the delicious pies that she baked. She was a wonderful mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Friends will be received from the Talbott Funeral Home 56 N. Brandenburg Street in Belington on Tuesday Nov. 30, 2021, from 6 to 9 p.m. On Wednesday, Dec. 1, 2021, she will be moved to the Valley Bend Baptist Church, where she will lie in state from noon to 1 p.m. the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted with Pastor Joe Bowen officiating. Interment will follow in the Valley Bend Cemetery.

The family asked that in lieu of flowers memorial contributions be made to the Valley Bend Cemetery fund c/o Larry Simpson 8983 Barbour County Highway, Belington, WV. 26250.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions face coverings are highly recommended while paying your respects at the funeral home and the church.
