Irene Pingley George, age 91 years, passed away from this life, Monday, July 18, 2011 at the Trumbull Memorial Hospital in Warren, Ohio.

She was born on Monday, January 12, 1920 at Westernport, Maryland a daughter of the late Benjamin Franklin and Myrtle Mae Cox Pingley.

Irene is survived by three children, Judy and husband, Jimmy Bodkin of Howland, OH; Lloyd and wife Shirley George Jr. of Lordstown, OH with whom she lived, and Connie Fletcher of Front Royal, VA, daughter in law, Barbara George of Vienna, OH; seven grandsons; a granddaughter; three great grandsons; a great granddaughter and a brother, Raymond Eugene Pingley of Ravenna, OH.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lloyd George Sr. who died on May 3, 1976; one son, David Lee George; three brothers, Harry W., Russell, and Robert Pingley, three sisters, Lillian Tacey, Louvena Pingley and Marie Rowe.

She lived in Junior, WV while growing up then most of her life in Elkins. Irene worked at the Community Market in Elkins then moved to Ohio in 1976. Her husband passed away two months later and she moved back to Elkins where she worked in the Jewelry Department at Kmart. She retired in 1985 and relocated back to Ohio to be near her children. Irene became active in the Niles Senior Center and a volunteer for the Red Cross and Niles Community Services. She enjoyed going on the bus trips with the senior citizens, after moving to Lordstown, she still volunteered in Niles and attended the Lordstown Nutrient Site and enjoyed bus trips with Lordstown Seniors.

Calling Hours will be Friday, July 22, 2011 from 6 to 8 pm at the Holeton-Yuhasz Funeral Home. Mrs. George will then be moved to the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Elkins. On Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at 1:00 pm, a Graveside Service will be conducted at the Elkins Memorial Gardens on the Airport Road with The Rev. Dave Fisher officiating. The family suggests that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contributions to Niles Community Services, 401 Vienna Ave, Niles, Ohio 44446.
