THE REVEREND IRIS VIOLET SKIPPER, age 98 years, a well known minister of Tucker County and a resident of Location Road, St. George, WV departed this life Monday morning, January 24, 2011 at her home.

She was born Wednesday, November 13, 1912 at Oakland, Md, a daughter of the late The Rev. J.C. Skipper and Nora D. Friend Skipper. On April 2, 1938 at Oakland, MD, she was married to James Leo Skipper, who preceded her in death in 1979.

Surviving are two sons, Thomas Skipper of St. George and G. Patrick Skipper and wife Elsie K. of Oakland, MD; one daughter, Becky Starr Skipper Arbogast and husband Kevin of St. George; one sister, Starr Harvey of Deer Park, MD; two grandsons, Tim and Tom Skipper; one step grandson, Richard Jordan; six great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren.

Preceding her in death are one infant daughter; four brothers, Arden Weaver Skipper, Sibre B. Skipper, Clester B. Skipper, and Cody C. Skipper; and one sister, Ireta D. Sweitzer.

She attended the schools of Oakland, MD and the Berean School of the Bible. She was the Pastor of the Good Tidings Assembly of God Church at St. George for thirty five years. She loved to read the Bible. She was a noted cook and gardener.

The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Thursday from 5 to 8 PM. On Friday morning, January 28, 2011, Rev. Skipper will be moved to the Lakeside Assembly of God Church at Oakland, MD, where friends may call from 11 AM until 12 Noon the funeral hour. The Rev. John Friend, The Rev. William Skipper and The Rev. Joe Akers will officiate and interment will follow at the Friend Cemetery on Bray School Road at Oakland, MD. The family suggest that expressions of sympathy be in the form of contribution to; The Hand of Hur, Inc., c/o Jason Skipper, 293 Bray Hill Lane, Oakland, MD 21550.
