Jack Earl Chandler, 80, a resident of Elkins, passed from this life Saturday afternoon, September 7, 2013 at the Louis A. Johnson VA Medical Center in Clarksburg. Jack was born Sunday, July 23, 1933 in Manilla, Arkansas, a son of the late Nobel Earl Chandler and Raven Alexandria Thomas Chandler. In Vietnam in 2001, he married the former Lien Thi Tran who survives in Elkins. Others left to cherish Jack’s memory are three children: Johnny, Joanne and Gary Chandler, all of CA, five siblings: James Chandler and wife Margie of CA, Richard Chandler and wife Marocca of NC, Donald Chandler and wife Shirley, Henry Chandler and Judy Leonard and husband Randy, all of VA, eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren. Preceding Jack in death besides his parents were two siblings: Dana Wolf and Charlie Chandler. Jake joined the Marine Corp and served during the Korean War. He had owned and operated two businesses. The first business was A1 Appliance Repair which he opened in California with his brother Jim, and the second business was Chandler and Sons Heavy Equipment Company. Jack retired from the Department of Defense after twenty years of service. While working for them, he traveled extensively to Korea, Vietnam and the Caribbean Islands constructing targets for practice missions. A visitation will be held at the Randolph Funeral Home on Thursday, September 12, 2013 from 5PM-6PM, the funeral hour. The Very Reverend Donald X. Higgs V.F. will officiate. Jack’s request for cremation will then be honored. Inurnment will take place at a later date.
