Jack H. Freeze 1937-2002 Obituary

Jack H. Freeze, 64, a resident of Route 4, Philippi, passed away at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 3, 2002, in the United Hospital Center in Clarksburg, following an extended illness.

He was born Nov. 21, 1937, in Grafton, a son of the late Paul E. and Ruth I. Bolyard Freeze.

He was united in marriage on July 17, 1997, to the former Melva L. Nutter, who survives.

Also surviving are his special dog and companion, Kelli; two sisters and brothers-in-law, Vivian and Ronnie Slonaker, Copley, Ohio, and Linda and Donald Lyons, Newburg; one brother and sister-in-law, Roger and Debbie Freeze, Lakeland, Fla.; one brother-in-law, Bill Moore, Thornton; and several nieces and nephews.

He was a special friend to many people with the most special being Debra Hamerski of Philippi, who he referred to as his “daughter and side-kick.” He was a proud countryman and served with the U.S. Air Force from 1955 to 1963, having served two years of his duty in Guam.

He was employed by United States Steel Corp. until his retirement in 1992. He was also employed by the U.S. Postal Service, a security guard for the U.S. Naval Warfare Center in Trenton, N.J., the Princeton Armored Truck Service in Princeton, N.J. He was also a painter and interior decorator for a number of years.

He was a member of the Jerusalem United Methodist Church in Philippi. He was a social member of the Grafton Veterans of Foreign Wars Association.

Friends will be received at Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, today after 11 a.m. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday in the funeral home chapel with the Rev. Gary and Alicia Rapking officiating. Interment will follow in Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery with military rites being accorded.
