JAMES ARTHUR THOMPSON SR. James Arthur Thompson Sr., 77, a resident of the Baughman Towers, Philippi, died Wednesday, December 11, in Mansield Place, Philippi, following an extended illness. He was born March 2, 1936, at Philippi, a son of the late Ogle Paul Thompson (Sr.) and the late Rose Virginia (Vasto) Gerard. Surviving are four sons, Brian Keith Thompson and wife, Shelby, Junior, Anthony Richard Thompson and wife, Donna, Cliffty, Ark., Randall Rance Thompson and wife, Sylvia, Buford, S.C., James Arthur Thompson Jr., in Md.; four daughters, Loretta Lynn Thompson, Valley Head, Nancy Ann Garton and husband, Rick, Jane Lew, Lisa Marie Campbell and husband, Shane, Washington state, Cynthia Lynn Thrash and companion, Tom, Portland, Ore.; two step children, Donnie Mullenex Jr. And wife, Lauren, in N.C.; Margaret Mullenex Pharis, Belington; one sister, Deonna Rose Daughtery and husband, Randall, Glen Burnie, Md., one half sister, Orella Harris and companion, Eddie, Staunton, Va.; one step-sister, Louise Moore, Philippi and three step-brothers, Ivan Eugene Daughtery, Hugh Daugherty and wife, Dorothy, Arley “Butch” Daugherty, Flemington; several grandchildren and great grandchildren and his companion, Wavalene Tenney. He was also preceded in death by one half-brother, Ogle Paul Thompson Jr.; by two step-sisters, Marilyn Finley and Doreen Bennett; by two step-brothers, Danny Daugherty and Olen Daugherty and by a granddaughter, Jasmine Dawn Fortney. Mr. Thompson was a former automotive mechanic for Wilmoth Auto in Belington, an electronics technician and a partner in J. & S. Electronics doing T.V., radio and VCR repair. He had worked as Activities Coordinator at the Barbour County Good Samaritan Center and, following his retirement, he served as a Meals on Wheels delivery driver. He was an avid bowler and enjoyed hunting, fishing, watching T.V. and visiting with his family and friends. Funeral services will be conducted at 1:00 P.M. on Saturday, December 14, from the Stemple & Forman Funeral Home, 385 South Main Street, Philippi. Pastor Howard Swick will officiate and interment will follow in the Barbour Memorial Cemetery. Friends may call at the funeral home from 7:00 until the 9:00 P.M. on Friday and from 9:00 A.M. until 1:00 P.M., the funeral hour on Saturday. Stemple & Forman Funeral Home was entrusted with arrangements.
