James Eugene Shiflett 1941-2020 Obituary

James “Jimmy” Eugene Shiflett, 79, a resident of Mill Creek, passed from this life Wednesday, August 19, 2020, at West Virginia Caring Hospice Center in Elkins with his loving family by his side.

Jimmy was born Saturday, January 11, 1941, in Everettsville, a son of the late Herman Shiflett and Margaret Fridley Shiflett.

On May 31, 1963, in Mill Creek, he married the love of his life, Karen Currence Shiflett who survives at home.

Also left to cherish his memory are three children, Leslie Shiflett and wife Susie of Beverly, Eric Shiflett of Raleigh, NC, and Tammy Hinzman and husband Frank of Mill Creek, two grandchildren, Alex Hinzman of Valley Bend, and Hannah Shiflett of Beverly, three siblings, Faye Wamsley and husband Don of Valley Bend, Maxine Pingley and husband Charlie of Elkins, and David “Jake” Tackett and wife Robin of Coalton, several nieces, nephews, special sisters and brothers in law, and special friend and colleague, Clarence Hilling of Newport News, VA.

Preceding him in death besides his parents were five siblings, Juanita Armstrong, Deloris Williams, Eloise Armstrong, Chris Shiflett, and Ricky Shiflett, and father and mother in law, Carrol and Sissy Currence.

Jimmy proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a professional firefighter for twenty-six years with the city of Newport News, VA, where he obtained the rank of Captain.

He had also been employed at Concast Metal Products in Dailey, and then at Armstrong Flooring until his retirement.

He loved blue grass music and enjoyed attending music festivals. Jimmy enjoyed farming, raising gardens, and cutting firewood.

Jimmy attended Mill Creek Memorial Mission Church.

Visitation will be held at Randolph Funeral Home Saturday, August 22, 2020 from 10:30 am until 12:30 pm, the funeral hour.

Rev. Randy Long will officiate and interment will follow in Blue Rock Cemetery where members of HW Daniels Post #29, American Legion, Tygart Valley Post #3647, Veterans of Foreign Wars and the WV Honor Guard will conduct full military honors.
