James Fielding Cain, age 73 years, a resident of the Isner Creek Road, Elkins, passed away peacefully at his home Wednesday, July 13, 2011. He was born October 4, 1937 at Clarksburg, WV a son of the late John A. Cain and the late Marie Bish Cain. Jim came from a pioneer family of Randolph County, his ancestors settled in Kingsville Community in the mid 1840’s. On December 26, 1959 in Staunton, VA., he was married to Ann Lockridge Cain who survives in Elkins. Also surviving are two sons, Michael Cain and wife Kristen, Shoreham, NY and Patrick Cain and wife Aimee of Elkins. One brother, Tom Cain, Roanoke, VA, one sister, Mary Cain, Martinsburg, WV, six grandchildren, Sean, Lauren, Brendan, Keely, Jaime and Erin Cain and cousins, William Taylor and Anne Sautter also survive. Also preceding him in death was one brother, John A. Cain, Jr.

Jim was a graduate of Elkins High School and Davis and Elkins College where he was a member of the football and track teams at both schools. He served as Sports Writer for the Elkins Inter-mountain and a reporter for the Clarksburg Publishing Company. Following college, he taught school on the secondary level for one year and later graduated from the West Virginia University School of Law. He was honored as an Outstanding Youths of Randolph County in 1955. He was selected as one of the Outstanding Young Men of America by the Jaycees in 1969 and later selected nationally to “Who’s Who in Government”. Mr. Cain served as Prosecuting Attorney in Randolph County for twenty eight years and later maintained a private law practice for a number of years in Randolph County. He was a member of the West Virginia Bar Association, member and past president of the Randolph County Bar Association, one of the founders of the Davis and Elkins Boosters Club, a member of the Board of Directors of the United Fund, a former chairman of the Randolph County Heart Fund Drive, the Prosecuting Attorney’s Association of West Virginia and a graduate of the United States Department of Justice Training School for Prosecuting Attorneys. He is a member of St. Brendan’s Catholic Church.

Friends may call from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM Friday, July 15, 2011 at St. Brendan Catholic Church in Elkins. A Biblical Prayer Service will be held at 7:00 PM Friday from the church. The Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, July 16, 2011 from St. Brendan Catholic Church with the Very Rev. Donald X. Higgs, VF as the Presider. Interment will follow in St. Brendan Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Brendan Catholic Church, Rt. 4 Box 515 Elkins, WV 26241 in memory of Mr. Cain. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Mr. James Fielding Cain.
