James L. “Jim” Cowan, 63, of Myers Fork Road, Petroleum, departed this life on Sunday, Jan. 19, 2003, at his residence.

He was born on Aug. 18, 1939, near Sherrard in Marshall County.

Mr. Cowan was retired from the Harrison County School System as a school bus driver and had worked in the coal industry as a truck driver and miner in the Fairmont and Wheeling areas. He was a veteran of the U.S. Air Force, a graduate of Sherrard High School and was a member of the First Assembly of God in Harrisville.

He is survived by his wife, Catherine A. Howell Foster Cowan; two daughters, Sheila J. Cowan, Fairmont, and Elaine E. Thomas, Port St. Lucie, Fla.; a son, Brian L. Cowan, North Bend, Wash.; two stepdaughters, Bonnie Wright, Moatsville, and Regina Gilley, Elkton, Va.; two stepsons, Leroy B. Foster, Whiteman AFB, Mo., and Leon G. Foster, Nutter Fort; a sister, Barbara Yocum, Terra Alta; and 14 grandchildren.

Mr. Cowan was preceded in death by his parents, Leslie H. and Helen Fryer Cowan; a brother, Donald Cowan; and two sisters, June Randolph and Patricia HorsesSon.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday from the Evanglical Bible Church at Tacy, with Pastor Don Blankenship officiating. Interment will be in the Crossroads Cemetery at Tacy. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at Raiguel Funeral Home in Harrisville and at the church from 11 a.m. until 1 p.m. on Wednesday.
