James Michael “Jim” Thorne, 53, of Route 4, Buckhannon, Boulder community, passed away Nov. 30, 2003, at his home.

He was born May 9, 1950, in Boulder, the son of the late Walter Lee and Lucille Evix Thorne.

In April 1978, he met his companion of 26 years, Mary “Sue” Stewart, who survives.

Also surviving are one daughter, Vickie L. Thorne of Boulder; one son and daughter-in-law, B.J. and wife, Melissa Stewart, of Volga; six sisters, Sue Karickhoff and companion, Harold Ball, of Buckhannon, Joann and husband, Rush Starcher, of Ashtabula, Ohio, Rose and husband, Charles Foster, Buckhannon, Shirley and husband, Arvel Shreves, Parma, Ohio, Jean and husband, Arkie Huffman, Volga, and Pam and husband, Rex Casto, Carrolton; one brother, Bob and wife, Shirley Thorne, Volga; and two grandchildren, Cheyenne and Michael Stewart, both of Volga.

He was preceded in death by one brother, Ronald Thorne.

He was a former well tender for Eastern American Gas. He later became a truck driver and retired with disability five years ago.

He was a Methodist by faith.

Jim loved hunting, fishing and the outdoors. He also loved his outdoor companions, “Furdinan” and “Molly Ann.”

Friends will be received at the Wright Funeral Home, 216 N. Walnut St., Philippi, after 5 p.m today and until 2 p.m. Wednesday, the service hour. The Rev. Carol Duffield will officiate and interment will follow in the Mt. Vernon Memorial Cemetery. Wright Funeral Home service.
