James Neal Finlen, 67, of Deming, N.M., departed this life Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2003, at his home. Jim had been in declining health for several months.

Jim was born in Elkins on July 14, 1936. He was preceded in death by his parents, Ray Finlen and Hazel Watts Finlen; three brothers, Harold Finlen of Elkins, Fred Finlen of Rainelle, and Clifford “Tip” Finlen of El Paso, Texas; and four sisters, Naomi Zirkle of Elkins, Rhonda Duckworth of Pennsylvania, Hannah Kelly of Elkins, and Vanessa Chadbolt of Ohio.

Jim is survived by three children, Julie Burgess and husband, H.T., of Virginia, Jeff Finlen and wife, Cindy, of Virginia, and Mark Finlen and wife, Donna, of North Carolina.

He is also survived by his wife, Juanita Finlen of Deming, N.M., and stepchildren, Rachel Tovar of El Paso, Mary, Joshua and Justin Tovar of Deming, N.M., Joe and Julie Tovar of Utah, Mike Tovar of Running Spring, Calif., Patsy and Luis Lerna of Phoenix, Ariz., and Luis Tovar of El Paso; one sister, Carla Jean Weese of Elkins; one sister-in-law, Ruby Finlen, and daughters, Margaret and Ruby Ann of El Paso, and Janice Bruce of Fountain, Colo.

At the request of the deceased, his remains were cremated and his ashes were scattered on his parents’ graves near Elkins. A memorial service was held at the time with his children, Julie, Jeff and their families in attendance. The service was also attended by his sister, Carla Jean Weese, and husband, Ron, and Jim’s friends.

The Rev. Terry Cannon presided over the memorial services.

Jim is resting now, Job 14:12. He’s waiting to begin his new life when Jesus returns, John 11:25.
