James Wayne “Jim” Heck, age 74 years, a resident of Elkins, passed away Sunday evening, October 25, 2020 at the West Virginia Caring Hospice Facility in Elkins. He was born August 12, 1946 in Hinton, WV, a son of the late Elmer Earl Heck and the late Mary Kathleen Morgan McCray. On October 22, 1983 in Baltimore, MD he was married to Laura McRae Hart Heck who survives him in Elkins. Also surviving are two sons, Edwin L. Curry, III (wife Kris) of Perkasie, PA and Dwayne Curry (wife Sammi) of Coeur d’Alene, ID. Two daughters, Diana Nims, M.D. of Madisonville, KY and Jamie Stuart (husband David) of Beckley, WV; six grandchildren (Michael, Amanda, Parker, Peyton, Abigayle and Morgan) and one great grandchild (Salem) also survive. Also preceding him in death was his grandmother, Nellie Morgan. Jim was an Inspector for the West Virginia Department of Highways prior to his retirement. He was a 25 year member of the Elkins Volunteer Fire Department, the Beech Mountain Hunting Club, a member of Elkins Masonic Lodge No. 108, A.F. & A.M., a member of the Landmark Baptist Church in Elkins and part of the Lonesome Polecat Rampage at Spruce Knob, WV. Friends may call from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm Friday, October 30, 2020 at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. Masks and social distancing will be required for those attending the visitation. On Saturday, October 31st, he will be moved to the Landmark Baptist Church where a funeral service will be held at 10:00 am. Dr. Ken Shiflet will officiate followed by a 1:00 pm committal service at the Pine Grove Cemetery in Czar, WV. Memorial contributions may be made to the Landmark Baptist Church, 1514 Harrison Ave., Elkins, WV, 26241 in memory of Jim. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for James Wayne “Jim” Heck.
