Janet Marie Wright Somers Butcher, beloved wife, mother and sister, 95, passed away on Jan. 13, 2021, in Morgantown.

Her kind and generous spirit, her love of music, of the beauty in the world around her, dedication to the service to others, and her devotion to family will be remembered with love by all who knew her.

She was born on Jan. 15, 1925, at Falling Waters, a daughter of William Eugene and Rosemary Wilkerson Wright.

She attended Marlowe Grade School and graduated from Martinsburg High School with the class of 1942. Following graduation, she worked at Fairchild Industries at Hagerstown, Maryland.

On March 27, 1945, she married Leon Preston Somers, who preceded her in death on Sept. 8, 1957.

In the community of Falling Waters, she was a youth and choir leader at Little Falls Presbyterian Church, a leader of the Blue Ribbon 4-h club, The Marlowe ‘Busy Bees’ and an active member of the Marlowe School PTA.

On Nov. 25, 1962, she was married to Rev. Samuel F. Butcher, who preceded her in death on Jan. 21, 1991. She enjoyed her life as a minister’s wife, and together they served in many United Methodist churches in the Buckhannon District of West Virginia, including Morgantown, Moundsville, Clarksburg, Huttonsville and Mill Creek.

Over the years worked with the Women’s Society of Christian Service, Methodist Youth Fellowship, Tyrand Cooperative Ministries and was the director of the children’s choir at the Mill Creek church.

She was employed at the Family Heath Service and Companion Care at Elkins. In later years, she was ‘Mrs. McGillicuddy’ of Mrs. McGillicuddy’s Antiques in Elkins, where she worked until her retirement.

She was preceded in death by brothers, Eugene, ‘Burke’, Robert ‘Bobby’, John; infant, Charles Wright; her sister, Doris ‘Dolly’ Wright Caskey; and her daughter, Cynthia Hope Butcher.

She is survived by children, Christine Somers of Tifton, Georgia, Harry Lee Somers (Kathy), of Kearneysville, Rosemary (Jerry) Munsey, of Morgantown, Toni (Jon) DiStefano, of Elkins, and Tim (Sherry) Butcher, Inwood; brother Kenneth Wright of Falling Waters; 20 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; nieces, nephews, and many, many beautiful memories.

There will be a private service for immediate family. Interment will be at Spring Mills Cemetery at Hedgesville.
