Mrs. Janis Thema (Wiseman) Pharis, age 87 years, a resident of Junior, departed this life Thursday morning December 12, 2013 in the Davis Memorial Hospital following a period of declining health.

She was born July 13, 1926 at Harding, WV a daughter of the late Albert Clinton and Zella Missouri (McCauley) Wiseman.

On August 16, 1947 at Belington she was united in marriage to James William “Bill” Pharis Sr. who preceded her in death April 27, 2002.

She is survived by two sons James W. “Butch” Pharis Jr. and wife Nancy of Junior, Michael A. Pharis and wife Mary of Junior, four daughters: Linda C. Cox and husband Gene of Good Hope, Karen S. Snyder of Belington, Janet L. Baisi and husband Rick of Kenova, Gloria J. Pudder and husband Carl of Junior.

Also surviving are two sisters Betty J. Bender of Essex, MD and Mary R. Scott of Elkins, WV, 12 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by nine siblings, one son-in-law Herbert Snyder, one grandson Kenneth Cox and one step grandson Dickie L. Mallow.

Mrs. Pharis attended the schools of Barbour County and she was last employed at Golden Clinic in housekeeping and was a homemaker.

She enjoyed sewing, and cooking. She was a member of the Philippi Congregation of the Jehovah’s Witnesses.

Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home in Belington from 6 – 9 pm on Saturday, December 14 and on Sunday, from 8 am until 1 pm the funeral hour when final rites will be conducted from the funeral home chapel with the Minister Richard Dickson officiating.

Interment will follow in the Trinity Cemetery near Junior.
