Jason Phelix Miller, age 87 years, a resident of Parsons, WV, departed this life Thursday afternoon April 22, 2021 at his home, surrounded by his loving family and under the care of Mountain Hospice. He had been in declining health.
He was born Thursday, June 8, 1933 at Hambleton, WV, a son of the late Albert R. and Mary Ellen Paugh Miller. On March 23, 1954 at Parsons, WV, he was married to the former Wanda Jean Bennett, who survives. They had celebrated sixty-seven years of marriage.
Also surviving are one daughter, Helen Jean Harris and husband Dennis of Hambleton WV., and several nieces and nephews; and a very special friend who he loved like a son, Mark Crosten.
Preceding him in death are two half-brothers, Tom and Robert “Bob” Martin; one sister, Elizabeth Wilfong; and one half-sister, Marie Armentrout.
He attended the Hamrick Grade School and Parsons High School. He was a Veteran of the United States Army during the Korean Conflict from 1953 to 1955 serving in the 333rd Division, and the Army Reserves from 1955 to 1962. He worked at the former Parsons Tannery for twenty-six years and then seventeen years for the Tucker County Commission. He was a member of the Tucker County EMS for sixteen years. He attended the Hambleton United Methodist Church and the First United Methodist Church of Parsons, where he also had helped build the new addition. Jason helped many people during the winter months, plowing the sidewalks in downtown Parsons. He enjoyed working on lawn mowers and could fix anything with an engine. He was a very talented woodworker and was also a Master-plumber. He was a man of many talents.
The family will receive friends at the Lohr & Barb Funeral Home of Parsons on Monday from 4 PM to 7 PM. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 27, 2021 at 11 AM. Rev. Kevin Keplinger will officiate and interment will follow at the Parsons City Cemetery at Parsons, WV., where the H.W. Daniels Post #29 American Legion, the Tygart Valley Post #3647 Veterans of Foreign War and the Tucker Co. Veterans Assoc. will conduct full military honors.
