Jean Buchanan Anderson passed away on December 23, 2011 in Belton, Texas. She was born on October 3, 1918 in Topeka, KS. She was the daughter of Anna Creagar Buchanan and Harry Earle Buchanan who preceded her in death. She is survived by one sister Dorothy Buchanan Wiltrout of Colorado Springs, CO. She was preceded in death by one brother, John David Buchanan and one sister Marie Buchanan Oberhelman. Jean attended public school in Topeka and Abilene, KS. She attended Kansas State University where she received a degree in Dietetics. After graduation she completed a year of training in Chicago and then worked as a registered dietician. At the beginning of World War II she joined the U. S. Army as a Second Lieutenant and served as a dietician for army hospitals at Fort Knox, Kentucky and in England. On June 29, 1944 she married Henry D. Anderson who preceded her in death on October 19, 1995. She is survived by three children, Susan Anderson Hansen Ashworth and husband Steve of Monroe, NC, William Thomas Anderson and wife Trina Poore Anderson of Red Bank, NJ, and Barbara Anderson Merlo and husband Joseph Merlo of Belton, TX. She is survived by five grandchildren, Jonathan Hansen and wife Elizabeth of Charlotte, NC, Amy Hansen Schultz and husband Chris Schulz of Charlotte, Kate Anderson of Red Bank, Emma Merlo of Belton, and Joseph Anderson Merlo of Belton. She is survived by one great-grandson, Alexander Hansen of Charlotte. Jean will also be missed by many nieces and nephews. As a loving wife, mother and grandmother she was always there to support her loved ones. Jean was never afraid of a new challenge and eagerly moved to new locations when work or family needs made the change necessary. As a result she lived in many states and one foreign country: Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Virginia, Kentucky, England, West Virginia, Arkansas, Tennessee, and Texas. Jean always believed that her years in Buckhannon, West Virginia were the happiest times. Her strong spirit, everlasting kindness, determination to help others and bright mind will be missed by all who loved her. Memorial Service will be held 2 PM, Saturday, January 14, 2012 at Poling-st. Clair Funeral Home with the Rev. Steven Meadows officiating. Burial will follow in the Heavner Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations may be sent to West Virginia Wesleyan College, c/o Advancement Office, 59 College Ave., Buckhannon, WV 26201.
