Jennings Darold Coen, 88, of Asbury Towers United Methodist Home, Greencastle, Ind., and formerly of Anderson, Ind., died Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2003, at Asbury Towers Nursing Home Facility, Greencastle, Ind., following an extended illness.

He was born May 17, 1914, in Gaston, a son of the late Ainsley Madison and Laura Rebecca Hacker Coen.

He was married on June 5, 1936, in Anderson, to E. Donna Tumulty Coen, who survives at Greencastle, Ind.

Also surviving are three sons, Gary Coen and wife, Marcia, of Parker, Colo., Mike Coen and wife, Patty, of Elkins, and Brent Coen and wife, Suzette, of Greencastle, Ind.; one daughter, Pamela Hardin and husband, Tom, of Taylorsville, Ky.; two sisters, Thelma Shields of Gio Harbor, Wash., and Pauline Sorba of Chesterton, Ind.; eight grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by one brother, two sisters and one grandson.

He was an Anderson Police Officer who joined the department in August of 1942 and served as the chief from 1952-1956.

He retired from the police department in 1962. He also served as the director of safety and transportation for Anderson Public Schools, retiring in 1976.

He was a lifetime member of the Anderson Noon Lions Club and a lifetime member of the Fraternal Order of Police.

Final rites will be performed by the Fraternal Order of Police at 1 p.m. Saturday at East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, Ind. Interment will be in East Maplewood Cemetery in Anderson, Ind. at a later date.
