Mr. Jessie R. Adkins, 39, a resident of Belington, passed away Thursday, July 29, 2010, as a result of injuries sustained in a coal mining accident at the Loveridge Mine in Marion County.

He was born April 10, 1971, at Chicago, Illinois, a son of Buddy Adkins and Joan Hoover Adkins, both of Huttonsville.

On June 28, 1991, he married Melissa Watson Adkins who survives in Belington. Also surviving are one son, Jordan Adkins, and one daughter, Amber Adkins, both at home; his maternal grandmother, Minnie Hoover, of Valley Head; three sisters, Nancy Armstrong and companion, Kenny Swecker, of Elkins, Shaina Vandevender and husband, Jimmy, of Valley Head and Elizabeth Osburn and husband, Matt, of Huttonsville. Several aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews also survive.

Also preceding him in death were paternal grandparents, Russell Adkins and Sadie Boggs; maternal grandfather, Jessie Hoover; and one brother, Bobby Adkins.

Jessie was a graduate of Tygarts Valley High School where he was a member of the football team. He was employed as a coal miner for Consol Energy Loveridge Mine at the time of his death. He was a member of United Mine Workers of America Local 9909 and enjoyed hunting and fishing.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. today at the Tomblyn Funeral Home in Elkins. A funeral service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Aug. 3, from the funeral home chapel with the Rev. A.H. Belt officiating. Interment will follow in the Brick Church Cemetery near Huttonsville. The Tomblyn Funeral Home of Elkins is in charge of the arrangements for Jessie R. Adkins.
