Joanna Carrie Barnett Lipscomb, 65, a resident of the Holly Meadows community, Parsons, departed this life Friday morning, March 8, 2002, at her home. She had been in declining health and under Hospice Care for the past six months and death was attributed to Emphazema.

She was born Nov. 28, 1936, at Red Creek, a daughter of the late Russell Barnett and Hazel Mallow-simmons.

On Feb. 23, 1957, at Parsons, she was married to Jennings Randolph Lipscomb, who survives. They had celebrated 45 years of marriage.

Also surviving are three sons, Joseph Randolph Lipscomb and Jerry Russell Lipscomb and wife, Brenda, all of Morgantown, and Robert Mark Lipscomb and wife, Cheryl, Arthurdale; one daughter, Katherine Jean Hymes, Thomas; one sister, Wilda Jean Jackson and husband, Robert, Red Creek; three grandchildren, Alan Polomski, Morgantown, Jeremy Robert Lipscomb, Arthurdale, and Carrie Rene Hymes, Thomas.

She was a graduate of Davis High School with the class of 1954. She was a former employee at the Parsons Headstart Program as a schoolteacher, where she had worked for 12 years. She was the owner of Joanna’s Ceramics. She was a homemaker. She was a Methodist by faith.

Friends will be received at Barb & Greenlief Funeral Home on Sunday from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. Final rites will be conducted at the funeral home parlor on Monday at 11 a.m. The Rev. Neil Parsons will officiate and interment will follow at Buena Chapel Cemetery at Canaan Valley.
